WhatsApp-Ready Saree Catalogs in Minutes

Indian wholesale runs on WhatsApp broadcasts. How to build a four-pose saree catalog set that reads well compressed on a phone and gets forwarded.

WhatsApp-Ready Saree Catalogs in Minutes - Guide guide by ApparelAI Studio

Most Indian textile wholesale does not happen on a marketplace. It happens in a WhatsApp broadcast at nine in the evening, sent to 300 retailers who forward the good ones onward.

That channel has rules of its own, and they are not the rules a marketplace listing follows. Optimise for a Myntra listing and your catalog underperforms on WhatsApp, because the two are read completely differently.

What WhatsApp does to your images

It compresses hard. Images are re-encoded on send. Fine detail, subtle texture and small text disappear. A photo that looked crisp on your monitor arrives soft.

It is viewed small, then forwarded. The first read is a thumbnail in a chat list. If the garment does not register at that size, nothing else matters.

It gets re-forwarded and re-compressed. Your image may be three forwards deep by the time a buyer sees it, degrading each time.

There is no product page. No title, no description, no size chart. The image carries the entire pitch.

What that means for the shot

Fill the frame. Distant full-length shots with lots of studio space die at thumbnail size. Crop tighter than you would for a marketplace.

Favour contrast. Low-contrast, tonal compositions turn to mush after compression. A saree that reads clearly against its background survives forwarding.

Do not rely on fine texture alone. If the selling point is a delicate weave, it needs its own close-up, because it will not survive compression inside a full-length shot.

Keep any text large and minimal. Design code and price, if anything. Small overlaid text becomes unreadable after two forwards.

The four-pose set that works

For each design, a set of four earns its place:

  1. Full-length on-model, front. The hero. Tight crop, clear background.
  2. Pallu or detail close-up. The zoom, delivered rather than requested, since nobody zooms in a chat.
  3. Folded or flat display. Reads as the shop-counter view and conveys the colour story fast.
  4. Second pose or colourway. Gives the buyer a reason to keep looking.

Four is deliberate: enough to sell, few enough to send as a batch without annoying the recipient.

Producing the set quickly

The bottleneck was never the sending, it was producing four usable images per design across a catalog that changes weekly.

From one upload session you can generate the on-model hero, then the supporting shots from the same references: border detail, pallu flat lay, folded display, plus a second pose via Batch Generation. Colour Variant covers the additional colourways without a fresh shoot.

For a 40-design drop that is one afternoon of flat photography rather than a studio booking, and the catalog goes out the same week the fabric lands.

Practical broadcast habits

One design per message. Batches of twenty images get scrolled past and are impossible to reply to specifically.

Put the design code in the caption, not burned into the image, so it survives compression and stays searchable in the chat.

Send the hero first. If the recipient opens only one image, it should be the on-model shot.

Keep a consistent model across the catalog. In a forwarded image with no branding, a recognisable model is the only thing identifying the catalog as yours. That is covered in building a consistent AI brand model.

On PDFs

Some buyers want a PDF rather than loose images. Keep it simple: one design per page, hero plus one detail, design code and price. Do not build a 60-page PDF, because it will not open reliably on a mid-range phone and will not get forwarded.

Bottom line

WhatsApp is a different medium from a marketplace listing and rewards different images: tighter crops, higher contrast, detail delivered rather than left to zoom. The reason most wholesalers send weak catalogs is not that they do not know this, it is that producing four good images per design was never affordable at catalog scale. It is now, and the channel rewards whoever moves first each season.
